Bone grafting

If you have had missing teeth for a while, loss of bone in your jaw is common. It’s the body’s normal response to tooth loss, infection, gum disease or other trauma.

The amount of bone loss to an individual can differ quite significantly, that's why we cannot provide a set fee for treatment. Following consultation we will provide you with a bespoke treatment plan which will include this information.

The process

For dental implants to work, there must be enough bone in the jaw, which is strong enough to hold and support the implant. If this is not the case, you may need some other treatment at your Hoylake dentist before your implant treatment can begin, such as bone augmentation, bone grafting or other oral surgery treatment.

At your initial consultation, we will determine how much bone is available and the shape of the bone. This assessment is done through visual examination, palpation of the bone ridge and with advanced x-ray techniques.

More information

In order to stimulate regrowth, we usually take a small sample of bone from another area of your body to graft to your jawbone. The bone then fuses over a few months with the rest of your jawbone, providing a stable area to place an implant.

Benefits of bone grafting

  • Enables patients with deteriorated jawbones the choice to have life-changing dental implants
  • Stimulates growth and restores jawbone health
  • Restores facial structure, creating a more youthful appearance
